Borosilicate Flameworking
Borosilicate is a hard glass originally developed for commercial and industrial applications. It is perfect for larger art glass pieces and sculptures. It is distinguished from soft glass due to how much more time and heat it takes to get it to move. It does not easily break due to thermal shock. Borosilicate glass comes in clear and many colors. Students have a hands on experience melting glass with a torch into small sculptures, marbles, pendants and vessels as they progress.

Borosilicate Networking Classes
Networking with Borosilicate
4 sessions
This class will explore a technique commonly called “networking” with borosilicate glass. It’s a lovely, manageable introduction to sculptural flameworking for those who are new to glass, and it can be scaled to any level of expertise. Networking is creating a lattice using thin glass rods and building it into a structure. Networking can be used to create an infinite variety of 2- and 3-dimensional pieces: animals, birds, vessels, ornaments, dream catchers, flowers, leaves and fruits, anything you can dream up.
Beginners will start with making small 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional objects of the student’s choosing. Those with some networking experience may make more complex forms.
All levels are welcome to join this course.

Fun with Borosilicate Marbles and Pendants
Level: Beginner (1 session)
This is a beginner-level, 2-hour class that will introduce you to the art of making pendants and marbles out of solid Borosilicate glass using a technique called flameworking. The class will cover the basics of how to work with the flame, control the temperature of the glass, and shape it with your hands. By the end of the class, you should be able to make a glass marble, unique pendant, or at least have a good idea of how to start your journey with glass. The main goal of the class is for you to have fun while learning about this amazing material and bring your imagination to life through flameworking. No prior experience with glass is necessary.
